Best Clean Bathrooms on I-95 | State-by-State Guide
Nothing derails a road trip faster than a gross bathroom. This guide covers the best-rated, most reliable clean bathroom stops at every state along I-95, from Florida to Maine. We focus on truck stops and travel plazas because they’re built for road travelers: always open, high-traffic (which means frequent cleaning), and generally far cleaner than what you’ll find at a random gas station. Buc-ee’s gets its own category, because it earned it.
As one frequent I-95 driver put it on Reddit’s r/roadtrip: “Plan your stops around Buc-ee’s locations and your road trip bathroom anxiety disappears completely.” Solid advice. The locations are listed below.
π The Buc-ee’s Advantage
Buc-ee’s consistently wins “cleanest bathrooms in America” surveys and is the gold standard for I-95 travelers. The key: they have 30 to 100+ stalls per location (no waiting), a dedicated cleaning crew working constantly, and a company culture that treats bathroom quality as a marketing differentiator. The locations on I-95 or near it are worth building your stops around.

Quick Tips for Bathroom Stops on I-95
- Truck stops beat gas stations every time. High traffic means frequent cleaning. Love’s, Pilot, and Flying J all have cleaning schedules posted inside.
- Buc-ee’s is worth going out of your way for. The three East Coast locations (St. Johns FL, Richmond Hill GA, Selma NC) are benchmarks.
- State service areas on toll roads are usually excellent. Maryland, New Jersey, and Maine Turnpike service areas are consistently well-maintained.
- Wawa (Florida, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey) is the best combination of clean bathrooms plus genuinely good food on the corridor.
- Avoid standalone gas stations at high-traffic exits unless it’s an emergency. They tend to be the worst.
