π Travel Tips
- Stop every two to three hours. Your dog needs the break as much as you do.
- Never leave your dog alone in a parked car, even with the windows cracked. Heat builds up faster than you think, even on a mild day.
- Bring your own water and a collapsible bowl. Rest area fountains aren’t built for dogs.
- Keep vaccination records in the car, not at home. Some welcome centers and boarding facilities ask.
- Eating on the road without leaving your dog in the car: use the drive-thru, or order ahead on DoorDash or Uber Eats and have it ready when you pull in, so you’re in and out fast.
- Not every rest area dog spot is fenced. Some are just a patch of grass with a waste station. Check the specific listing before you count on off-leash space.
