Dog-Friendly Rest Stops on I-95 in Virginia: Exit by Exit

Virginia is a long haul on I-95, and if you are driving with a dog you have solid options at almost every stretch. The good news for pet owners: the Virginia Department of Transportation confirms that every one of its safety rest areas has a pet walking area, with signage pointing the way and dog waste stations on site. Below are the I-95 rest areas run by VDOT, listed north to south in mile-marker order, plus one private travel center with a fenced dog park.

Verified as of July 5, 2026 against VDOT’s official rest area listing. Rest areas do close for renovation and paving from time to time, and a couple on this corridor have used temporary facilities recently. Treat this as a planning guide and call ahead if a specific stop is your only option.

A few tips for dog-friendly stops in Virginia

Keep your dog leashed in all rest area pet areas; VDOT signs require it, and these are busy stops right off the interstate. Clean up using the waste stations provided. If you need a longer off-leash break, the Davis / TA Express dog park at Exit 33 is the standout on this route, with room to actually stretch out behind a fence.
